Apply For A Churchill Fellowship Travel Grant

The Churchill Fellowship is once again handing out grants to enable British citizens to follow their passions and travel overseas. On September 13 they will be opening applications for Churchill Fellowships to be undertaken in 2023 and beyond.

Averaging thousands of pounds, every year the Churchill Fellowship awards up to 150 Fellowships. Each nominated fellow in 2023 will join the thousands that have been awarded funds since Churchill’s death in 1965. These have included nurses, artists, farmers, conservationists, carers, artisans, members of the emergency services and sportsmen.

The grants cover all travel expenses, food, accommodation and insurance for four to eight weeks to enable recipients to study areas of topical and personal interest for the benefit of their profession or community.

Your employment or personal interests must be along the lines of the following categories to be awarded a grant this year:

  • Arts and communities
  • Caring for our natural environment
  • Children and young people with experience of care
  • Climate change
  • Resilient economies and communities
  • Science and technology
  • Education in schools
  • Palliative and end of life care
  • Physical activity for healthier lives
  • Rural communities
  • Suicide prevention, intervention and postvention

The Fellowship experience is life changing for many. In an annual survey of Fellows’ impact, the majority report significant growth in their knowledge, networks, confidence and standing, and every single Fellow said they would recommend applying for a Fellowship.

Churchill himself travelled extensively including to Cuba, the USA, Canada, Spain, Egypt, Morocco, India, Sudan, South Africa, France and Belgium.

The closing date for applications is November 22.
