Volunteer on a Sports Program in India

INDIA / Global Vision International

Volunteers on this program will be involved in planning and running various sports lessons and games including football, cricket, athletics, basketball and netball with children from 4 to 14 years. The project is in a local school where you will also at times be assisting local teachers and GVI staff to organise sports events and help run various outdoor activities. Sports is a vital tool that will motivate the students outside of the classroom setting and give children the opportunity to develop various skills and their confidence in general. Without volunteer assistance the children would not have the chance to take part in sports due to the lack of supervision and skills and general lack of equipment within the school.

In your free time you will get a chance to explore the culture of Kerala by taking cooking or yoga lessons, visiting the local sights in Kochi, the enchanting backwaters or the tea and spice plantations in the hill station of Munnar. Kerala offers an excellent start to those looking to explore the beauty of India.

Highlights

Learning new skills in teaching sports to underprivileged children, experiencing a new culture through its local people, local cooking lessons, and a traditional Kathakali dance performance, and exploring the amazing local environment. Nearby highlights that some volunteers choose to experience include staying overnight on a houseboat and cruising along the enchanting backwaters, kayaking along the river and cycling through villages, relaxing on the beaches, or indulging in a traditional Ayurvedic massage.
