International Citizen Service

INDIA NICARAGUA / Raleigh International

How would you like the chance to improve the lives of some of the poorest people in the world?

If you are aged 18 – 25, Raleigh International Citizen Service (ICS) can give you just that. International Citizen Service is funded by the Department for International Development (DFID) and run by some of the most respected names in international volunteering.

You will travel for 10 weeks to India or Nicaragua and make a difference to the lives of others, experience another culture and learn about international development.

ICS involves an overseas placement where you will work alongside local volunteers tackling issues relating to the Millennium Development Goals. Activities will cover: Infrastructure building, training and workshop delivery and collaborating with partners to enhance livelihoods of some of the poorest communities.

In addition to the overseas project you will have to fundraise, attend compulsory training beforehand and a debriefing session on your return. Also, crucially, you will be expected to use what you have learnt to help on a more local level, by taking part in Action at Home. We hope that on coming back to the UK, you will feel a renewed passion for community involvement and international development, and continue to make a difference everywhere you can.

Raleigh has been organising volunteer programmes abroad since 1984 – it’s what we do. We offer a totally immersive experience. You’ll be living right in the heart of the community and really learning about another way of life.

We helped set up a new British Standard for the safe management of overseas ventures, and our teams both in country and at our head office in the UK are some of the most experienced around.

So now is your chance to make a difference! Visit www.raleighinternational.org/ics to find out more and how to apply.
