There are a lot of abandoned cats and dogs in the Canary Islands and animal shelters trying to care for them. Many have been set up by non-Canarios and survive on a shoestring budget so volunteers are always welcome.

Every two years work on The Working Traveller slows down as I focus my attention on the festival of football playing out on the TV. Watching two games a day puts a large dent in productivity so after a desperate hunt around for a half arsed idea to pass off as a well researched piece we came up with showing football’s popularity around the world.
Inti Raymi, the Festival of the Sun, was a celebration of the winter solstice and a way to greet the new year in the southern hemisphere. Dedicated to the sun god, Inti, the ceremony was the most important in the Incan calendar.
