Le Petit Refuge is a registered non profit charity. A peaceful horse sanctuary for neglected, abandoned equines situated in the beautiful Brenne natural park in central France. We currently have 27 rescued horses, ponies & donkeys all now living la belle vie on 20ha. The majority are old and cannot be re-homed, but we do have some youngsters too. They are all super friendly and just love being fussed over. Everyone lives out all year round in either twos or small groups and we make sure they are all pampered and happy.
We are looking for a couple, young or active retired, to come and live the French life for a year and help look after our orphans. Experience handling horses is a must, natural horsemanship skills and equine massage therapy skills would be a plus. You must be passionate about horses, organized, calm & patient & kind, enjoy peaceful country living and be outgoing and friendly. This is a laid back, easy going environment far from the madding crowd.
In exchange for 3 to 4 hours help per day, 5 days a week – feeding, grooming, lot’s of TLC, some stable and paddock cleaning – we use tractor, quad & trailer & paddock cleaner as our main tools – fence repairs when necessary, some strimming & mowing – we are offering a cosy, fully equipped one bedroom cottage with private garden, swimming pool and a car if required. This is an isolated property, 3km from the nearest village and 18km from the nearest town, so you really must be happy with quiet country living but there is plenty to do and see around and about. Riding ( you must be experienced rider ), cycling, walking, photography, bird watching, painting, pottering in our small organic veggie garden. Meet the local people, join in with all the fun and activities. French, English and German spoken.
