INDIA / Kaya Responsible Travel
Our Learn Hindi in Jaipur project is designed to offer volunteers a unique opportunity to experience India in is most elemental form, going back to basics to learn and understand the fundamental essentials about Indian culture. Volunteers will have the chance to participate in professional Hindi lessons as well as engaging with cultural excursions to deepen their knowledge and understanding.
Volunteers who are keen to get to grips with the basic Hindi language before their volunteer placement are encouraged to participate on this fantastic language course specialising in interactive and interdisciplinary learning. Volunteers will gain an insight into the language, culture and state of affairs of local social issues relevant to volunteering in India today.
The project is divided into two parts and into 2 weeks. The first week focuses on a cultural orientation and Hindi language classes, where the second week will focus purely on language classes.
The first week of the program allows for a cultural experience and understanding of Indian culture. Alongside a cultural orientation, you will also be undertaking Hindi language classes. In effect, you will be combining structured professional classes sessions with local excursions to deepen your knowledge and understanding of Hindi. While on the project, you will receive an introduction to Hindi and to Jaipur – getting around, the culture, the people and places that you need to know about in the city. You will also have interactive classroom based Hindi language sessions focussing on practical conversational themes with daily quizzes and homework! There will be cultural excursions with a guided tour of Amber Fort, watching a traditional Bollywood film and dinner with a local middle class family to get to grips with daily life in Jaipur. You will also receive guided language excursions visiting common places in the community to learn and practise your Hindi. Finally, you will have an individual exam/assessment to determine your learning’s over the past week or 2 weeks, and a suggestion of topics for further study, practice and review during your remaining time in India.
