Learn to Cook Authentic Indian Food, Volunteer in India

INDIA / Kaya Responsible Travel

Indian cuisine is known the world over for its unmistakable spices, colour and taste. Food serves to bind together India’s various geographical differences absorbing its culture, its religion and its history into their many different national dishes.

Empowered by the interest of past volunteers, Kaya are giving you the opportunity to become immersed in Indian culture by embracing a unique cooking experience, within the heart of India. We will help to unearth some of the mysteries surrounding Indian cooking as well as helping you to understand the cultural aspects related to Indian food. The project aims to bring to light, today’s real India – experiencing modern and traditional dishes and making visits to the countryside and urban areas to distinguish India’s varied and rich cuisine. Be prepared to turn learning on its head and open your mouth for a true Indian sensory experience.

During your time on the project, you will have 3 hours of cooking classes every day (Monday to Friday) with weekends off to explore the city and surrounding areas. During your cooking classes you will learn about the history and origins or Indian food, learn about the variety of Indian cooking, learn about Indian food types and spices and learn about traditional food preparation and serving. You will also get to visit a traditional street vendor and kitchen as well as visiting a traditional spice market, all in Jaipur City; these will both take place in your second week.
