FRANCE / Les Cormiers
The farm is located about 45 minutes south of Nantes in the West of France. The farm is totally organic supplying a large importer in the UK. We grow early crops for English vegetable boxes to plug the gap where the winter crops are over and the spring crops have not yet started, to replace product from southern Spain and Italy. Crops grown include lettuce, chard, spinach, cabbage, kohl rabi, courgettes, fennel, carrots, bunching turnips, sweetcorn, butternut and French beans. For 2011 we will be starting set skin onions, melons and peppers.
The work will involve planting weeding and harvesting. It is in pretty French countryside, and there will be a team of French workers on the farm as well. However it is a commercial enterprise and not a holiday camp, we are looking for hard working people – preferably with some idea or previous experience of farm work who know that it can be hard and repetitive. We are looking for about 8 workers from 18th April until 20th June. Some ability in french would be useful and help to make the most of the experience.
The package would include local accommodation and a basic/ modest salary, probably based on piece work rates. It must be borne in mind that those found unsuitable will be asked to move on, as we have limited accommodation and unlimited work!
The farm is in a touristic area, so there are many pleasant places nearby, along with the famous Sunny Vendee beaches, at 25 minutes from the farm, which boast both sand and surf.
