We are a small registered Malagasy non-profit Association. Our aims include: direct conservation of our Sainte Luce Reserve; seeking innovative solutions to environmental problems particularly problems around sustainable financing of new protected areas, encouraging economic growth and sustainable rural development, and supporting and encouraging entrepreneurial spirit in rural communities around protected areas.
We are looking for enthusiastic volunteers to help us manage our extraordinary lemur reserve on the south east coast of Madagascar. We are a totally voluntary organisation and we have since our foundation in 2010 (although our members have decades of experience) been mainly involved in the protection of one special protected area, known as Sainte Luce Reserve. We totally manage the reserve, which is on land purchased by a local to dedicate to conservation. We are looking for enthusiastic volunteers to work with us at our unique beachfront forest research site during the coming season.
You will be working with a (English-speaking) Malagasy team, mainly on habituation of the collared brown lemur (Eulemur collaris) and general biodiversity work around the reserve. You are expected to contribute to the costs of your food and the administration of the research program, and will receive all training required to be able to properly participate in the research work. This is an amazing opportunity to gain experience working under one of Madagascar’s most up-and-coming biologists in one of the most beautiful sites in the world.
The position is most suited to intrepid folks with a real sense of adventure who would love to see the real rural Madagascar and Malagasy forest and wildlife. Do please note that these are totally voluntary positions and there are costs involved so are most suitable for those who either wish to volunteer for philanthropic reasons, or for emerging professionals who would like practical work experience.
