Appalachians Abroad Teach in China – The Appalachians Abroad Teach in China Program (AATC) is an opportunity for qualified individuals to teach or study in China. Founded in 1995, AATC is a non profit programme designed to build educational and business relationships between the Appalachian region and China. The programme is a part of the Center for International Programs at Marshall University, in Huntington, West Virginia. Though focused on the Appalachia region, the program is open to individuals from all across the U.S. and Canada who have the qualifications and desire to be a teacher and “goodwill ambassador”.

Aston Language Centre – Teach English or learn Chinese. Aston also offers internships for overseas university students or graduates seeking to gain work experience. Another option is volunteer English teaching where Aston will sponsor you by providing free accommodation, transportation and access to Chinese lessons in your spare time.

Buckland International Education – Recent graduates, undergrads and retirees recruited for English teaching in China.

China by Teaching – The brainchild of a group of expat teachers living and working in China, who first arrived with an abundance of enthusiasm and a willingness to learn everything there was to know about teaching in this enigmatic country. They recruit teachers looking to follow the same path.

Hello Teacher – A recruitment agency that specialises in placing Aussies and Kiwis in English teaching jobs all over China. They’ve a nice bright website with pages of useful blog posts, from teaching in China with a disability, to ending your contract.

HiredChina – They recruit foreigners to live and work in China, and not just in teaching positions.

Teaching Nomad – A Western owned teacher placement agency based in Shanghai, China, connecting teachers with schools around the country. Jobs are also available in Taiwan and the Middle East.

V E T Program – The Volunteer English Teacher program places teachers in the poor rural schools in southern China.

WWOOF China – Aside from the membership fee money doesn’t change hands between volunteers and hosts but in China (and some other developing nations) WWOOF is trying something new. In an effort to encourage families in poor communities to become hosts, WWOOF is waiving the annual host fee, and allowing hosts to charge volunteers up to US$4 per night.

ChinaSMACK – Provides non-Chinese language readers a glimpse into modern China and Chinese society by translating popular and trending Chinese internet content and netizen discussions from China’s largest and most influential websites, discussion forums, and social networks into English.

Chinese-forums.com – An online community of people with an interest in Chinese language and culture.

E Z Learn Chinese Academy – I’m sure it’s not easy but these guys provide plenty of online lessons to make it less hard to read and speak Chinese. No longer updated but the Chinese language isn’t going to change that much in a few years is it?

South China Morning Post – HK based English language daily.

Waygo – Point and this app will translate Chinese (and other East Asian languages) with no internet connection required.
