KENYA / CHASE Africa
Located in rural Western Kenya, Korosiandet Health Clinic is situated within a small village, but catering a wide region of households. With just one doctors, two nurses and a sever lack of supplies – the staff struggle to give all their patients the best care. The local area is characterised with high levels of malaria, HIV and URTI – and some of the country’s highest rates of typhoid. There is also a very high birth rate meaning there is always a busy maternity wing, and MCH services are the most sought after.
Volunteers must have medical training – either medical or pharmaceutical students, or fully trained professionals. There is the unique opportunity to have some great hands on experience, in the knowledge that your contribution is really invaluable. Even the doctor isn’t yet fully trained here – but he deals with tropical diseases daily, that many from the UK or US will never have seen before. You will gain insight into the daily running of such a clinic; plus how the laboratory and pharmacy operate on such limited supplies.
