Volunteer with Elephants in South Africa

SOUTH AFRICA / GVI

Volunteer in Africa and help protect elephants from disappearing from the South African landscape.

You will be heading into the African bush to research elephants and other large mammals from research safari vehicles. This project gives you the opportunity to not only live and volunteer in the heart of a wildlife reserve, but also to develop an in-depth knowledge and understanding of one of the world’s most fascinating species.

Due to poaching, loss of habitat and persecution due to their effect on vegetation, elephant populations are increasingly under threat, meaning the data you collect is hugely valuable to their conservation efforts.

While you are on the project you will be trained in animal identification, tracking and using research equipment, so no previous experience is required. We only ask that you bring with you a willingness to learn and to fully immerse yourself in the project.
