Big Beyond Uganda volunteers will be living and working next to the vibrant African jungle of Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, which is in the far southwest corner of Uganda. It’s home to around half of the world’s population of Mountain Gorillas.

Our volunteers will help the people of Bwindi, including the indigenous Pygmy Batwa Tribe, look beyond today for a better quality of life and contribute to the conservation of mountain gorillas and their habitat.

At the core of each Big Beyond placement is a varied and fulfilling work-related learning experience. We partner with grassroots community based organisations and relevant government departments to integrate conservation and development objectives of protected areas and their bordering communities on a local level.

We’re looking for a diverse range of motivated volunteers and our placements can include but are not limited to the following subject areas:

– Agriculture and Horticulture
– Anthropology and Culture
– Architecture
– Arts and Drama
– Business and Finance
– Entrepreneurship
– Environmental Sciences
– Events Management
– Fitness and Sports
– Geography
– IT & Office admin
– Journalism and Photography
– Marketing
– Medical and Healthcare
– Project Management
– Teaching and Education
– The Arts (music, art, drama, dance, crafts)
– Tourism and Hospitality (a big focus on ‘ecotourism’ development)

Short term placements from 2 – 12 weeks
Long term placements from 13 weeks – 12 months

All placements are full time, Monday to Friday with weekends off to travel or just relax.

Requirements:

– Over 18 years
– Motivated
– Willing to adapt to a different culture and environment and be respectful of the people and place
– Eager to learn and happy to share your knowledge
