Volunteer and Protect Bolivia’s Indigenous Species

BOLIVIA / Kaya Responsible Travel

Bolivia is famous for its biodiversity – ranking 13th in the world. The Zoo in Santa Cruz houses a collection of native animals of South America, and is considered as one of the most complete collections in South America. Its mission is: “To gain value and prestige by satisfying the needs of knowledge and recreation of their visitors through giving a good quality of service with the help of the staff on assisting the visitors and protecting the environment.”

The Zoo, as well as being the largest tourist attraction in Santa Cruz, also operates an environmental education program, and conducts environmental research shaping the future for the species in the wild. It needs enthusiastic people, so the permanent workers can share experiences with foreign students and can learn some English. Also they get lots of English speaking visitors and there are only one or two persons of the staff that have some English knowledge. Plus volunteers have a different point of view and as tourists they can give some good suggestions.

Volunteers will be involved with cleaning cages, checking information signs and correcting them, cooking food for animals, feeding the animals, veterinary assistance, nutrition advice, taking care of animals and helping with veterinary work and maintenance of zoo grounds. You may also be involved in the preparation of educational materials and workshops.
