SOUTH AFRICA / Kaya Responsible Travel
Volunteer abroad in South Africa and get to the heart of the local community through assisting local medical staff and carers by offering support to this busy children’s hospital.
The children at this hospital in Cape Town are mainly those recovering from Tuberculosis, burns, broken bones, respiratory infections, HIV/AIDS and all types of recovery processes. The hospital is available to all children but it mainly treats and assists children of families that cannot afford healthcare.
Funding for the hospital comes partially from the government funded but they only provide 30% of of its yearly operating costs; the rest is through fundraising and volunteer help and donations, meaning your contribution is invaluable to keep the hospital running.
Volunteers of any skill level are welcomes, all little ones need love, attention and stimulation which the staff at this recovery hospital are often too busy to offer, meaning your role on the project will give them what they have been missing, and help them on the road to a full recovery.
Interns will work from 07:45-16:30, Monday – Friday and have weekends free to explore beautiful Cape Town or organize trips with the help of the on site staff including shark diving or Robben Island.
In the cost of the program you will get:
• Airport pick up and drop off
• On site training and 3 day orientation
• Accommodation in a volunteer house
• Food: 2 meals per day
• Weekly laundry service
