PHILIPPINES / Kaya Responsible Travel
By volunteering on this fantastic project in Asia, you can help improve the lives of deaf children in the Philippines. This is a perfect opportunity for those with specialised knowledge of working with the deaf. This project works with deaf children in many capacities. Volunteers will be assigned to one of two locations; depending on their experience in working with the deaf. Volunteers with basic experience will be placed at a Special Education centre, where they will help teach and mentor the deaf. More advanced volunteers will work at the High School and will interpret ordinary lessons into sign language for deaf students. Furthermore volunteers may also help conduct deaf awareness and training lessons.
Volunteers assigned to the High School will use their specialised skills in working with the deaf to assist teaching staff and to help interpret ordinary lessons into sign language for deaf students. In addition volunteers may also be required to help train existing teaching staff and provide deaf awareness lessons. The volunteers who are assigned at the Special Education centre will assist in teaching and mentoring the deaf as well as additionally helping to provide training for existing staff at the centre. Additionally volunteers may also chose to organize activities based on their specialities at the community centre at the location of their homestay and may also offer after school tutorials to some of the local children in the community.
