September discount of diving project in Belize for Lion Fish month

BELIZE / Kaya Responsible Travel

Kaya Responsible Travel offer the chance to work on a marine conservation project in the Caribbean waters of Belize.

The aim of the project, is to control the population of the asian species “Lion Fish”. Introduced into waters in Florida in the 90’s, these fish have no natural predators in this area and have gone on to decimate the natural fish population by up to 80%.

The project is open to those with no diving experience, or more advanced. PADI tuition is provided alongside the project, so you can learn as you work, and be presented with your qualification at the end.

Volunteers roles are mainly related to spear fishing the lionfish, training eels to feed on them, and educating the locals on how to use them as a food source. Other things such as monitoring populations of lobsters, conch and whale sharks need attention, and also general reef checks and maintenance.

In honour of Lion Fish month, Kaya are offering an £85 per week discount on the project price. So book before September!
