Volunteer Africa 32° South (VA32) Schools Coordinator
Internship post for minimum 6 months
LOCATION
Chintsa East, Eastern Cape, South Africa
KEY RESULT AREAS
• To implement the VA32 Wild Coast Schools Volunteer Program in rural schools in the Eastern Cape of South Africa.
• To monitor and evaluate the performance of volunteers who are participating in the program and address non performance as required.
• To ensure volunteers have the best possible experience during their time on the program.
• To ensure partner schools and communities receive added value from the presence of volunteers.
• To represent VA32 South professionally at all times and to actively promote a culture of volunteering.
DAILY ACTIVITES
• Liaising with partner schools on schemes of work (schemes are in place but do need to be updated each year).
• Developing weekly lessons based on the schemes (in partnership with volunteers on the project).
• Overseeing volunteer teaching commitments in the school and mentoring volunteers where required.
• Providing volunteers with a point of contact over the course.
• Liaising with our administrator
• Trouble shooting aspects of the project that affect the delivery of our work in the schools.
• Organising and implementing all afternoon programs including adult literacy, sports development programme and more.
ESSENTIAL TO HAVE
• Teaching qualification or experience.
• Written and spoken English.
• A genuine desire to work collaboratively with underprivileged communities
• The right to live and work in South Africa.
• A police clearance to work with children.
PREFERRED TO HAVE
• Teaching experience in South African schools.
• Current drivers license.
• Current first aid certificate.
• Developing country experience.
SALARY AND BENEFITS
• Single room accommodation with 3 meals daily in our volunteer house.
• Free use of surf boards, wet suits, kayaks,bikes and other recreational equipment.
