Job Summary:
Midwives For Haiti (MFH) is a maternal health outreach program that trains Haitian women and men in midwifery skills and sustains various maternal healthcare services. Please refer to our website to learn about our programs at www.midwivesforhaiti.org.

The goal of Midwives For Haiti is to provide access to prenatal care and skilled birth attendants during and after delivery for all women in Haiti.

Midwives for Haiti is seeking a Volunteer and Residence Coordinator to be a host for the Midwives for Haiti House. Responsibilities include scheduling and hosting volunteers, supporting volunteer orientation, maintaining the guesthouse, and facilitating transportation and translation services for volunteers.

The volunteer must maintain equanimity in the midst of a busy crowd and be willing to work extensive hours. He/She should enjoy working with people and be friendly and approachable. He/She must also be self-reliant, hard working, mature, and able to live in a developing country setting. The ability to speak French with willingness to learn Creole is highly desirable.

The Volunteer and Residence Coordinator will report to the In-Country Director. The time commitment is open-ended, but MFH prefers someone who can commit to at least one year.

Key Requirements:
● U.S. Citizen or Permanent Resident
● Proficiency in French or Haitian Creole
● Bachelor’s Degree (Social Sciences or Relevant Field Desirable)
● Excellent Multi-tasking and Communication Skills
● Strong Social Skills

Volunteer Recruitment and Orientation
● Oversee volunteer application process, refer candidates for interview, and ensure proper documentation is submitted
● Ensure volunteers receive proper information and orientation prior to their arrival
● Communicate with volunteers to create program schedule and coordinate donations in conjunction with In-Country Director
● Maintain all volunteer paperwork and share current licenses of volunteers with Hospital Administrator

In-Country Program Management
• Prepare rooms and beds for volunteers and visitors on a weekly basis
• Conduct in-country orientation of newly arrived volunteers
• Welcome and orient these volunteers to the house and to the hospital in addition to familiarizing them to all of MFH’s programs
• Review the week’s schedule with the volunteer
• Coordinate logistics for transportation for volunteers during their stay
• Coordinate overnight stays for non-MFH related groups
• Ensure adequate food and supplies in house for volunteers each by regularly communicating with Cooks and House Manager about number of volunteers and any special needs.
• Schedule and notify interpreters in advance, report hours worked to House Manager
• Serve as liaison contact for logistics and planning for large visiting groups and conduct house, hospital and program tours

Volunteer Support
• Serve as a liaison between volunteers and program staff and serve as a representative of MFH to all visitors
• Listen to and record the needs of MFH volunteers and report to the In-Country Director
• Provide proper emotional support and debriefing for volunteers during their stay as well as information or resources on advocacy and fundraising
• Document any incidents involving safety and poor performance that occur between volunteers and staff through incident reporting process
• Support In-Country Director in designing and implementing programs and policies to improve the volunteer experience

Social Media and Alumni Support
• Proactively document the work of MFH volunteers to support our marketing efforts and communicate this to the Marketing Director
• Maintain regular contact with volunteer alumni and donor base through social media and other forms of communication
• Collect feedback and media materials from volunteers from their experience and integrate current volunteers into volunteer alumni networks
• Manage content and post daily to Midwives for Haiti Volunteer Facebook page
