MALAWI / Mabuya Camp
Mabuya Camp is the busiest backpackers lodge and campsite in Malawi. As a result, the Manager’s role calls for a dynamic, energetic and competent individual(s).
The successful applicant (or couple) will be responsible for the day to day running of the busiest backpackers in Malawi. Your responsibilities will be extremely varied, and give you a fantastic overview of what it’s like to run a lodge, a bar and a restaurant. You will be working alongside me (Tom, the owner) and as such will be able to gain an invaluable insight into what it takes to run a successful business in Africa. You must be able to work hard when it’s needed, and not be the sort of person who needs a set routine. If it’s busy, you work. If it’s quiet, you relax – that’s the nature of tourism.
Not only would you be involved in making sure the lodge/bar/restaurant are running well, but you must also make sure the customers are happy, the stock is replenished and the daily accounts are done. In return, you’ll get a room (with the chance to convert it into a small house), food, bar allowance and a living wage (the more invaluable you prove to be, the higher this will be!).
Above all the successful applicant has to be able to laugh, a sense of humour is the most important tool for this job!
