Make a real difference working with institutionalised children in Bulgaria

BULGARIA / The Life Foundation

For this project we have partnered with the Bulgaria’s Abandoned Children Trust to send volunteers to work in an orphanage home to 250 babies and children.

As a result of their environment, many of the children are developing autistic spectrum symptoms and any disabilities they were born with often become more profound than they would in a more nurturing setting. The orphanage also acts as a respite centre for those children whose parents aren’t able to provide constant care for them due to their medical needs. There are very few members of staff in the orphanage so our volunteers aim to assist in all areas of the children’s care and development.

Volunteers are trained in numerous communication techniques before taking part in the trip. This can be quite a challenging project but immensely rewarding. Due to the emotionally challenging aspects of this project we advise that all volunteers are over 18.

Those who have had children themselves or have a great depth of experience of very young children are particularly sought after for this project.

Applications accepted until 20th Feb.
