NEW ZEALAND / Kiwi Internships
• Overview Welcome to Kiwi Internships!
We specialize in developing custom internship programmes. Kiwi conservation is just one of the opportunities that we can provide for you as all or part of your program. Our internships range from 4 weeks to 6 months or even longer in length, so it doesn’t matter if you are looking for a summer internship or a gap year! Please see our website for costs and more information about Kiwi Internships at www.kiwi-internships.com.
• Summary
You can be involved at a research and breeding facility for Kiwi birds. While Kiwi are New Zealand’s most iconic and distinctive bird, they are also an endangered species. You will be providing a vital service in kiwi conservation: working at a hatchery and nursery, raising young birds and re-releasing them into the wild. Your role would be in daily care, hygiene, feeding, medical care, and more. We find you the accommodation you want: we offer a range of different accommodation choices according to your needs and budget. We can organize homestays, farmstays, or apartments/flats (shared or single), depending on what kind of experience you are seeking. Location is in a fun and active city in New Zealand, so there will be tons of recreation opportunities at your doorstep.
We get you started: we organize your New Zealand airport collection and get you to your placement and place of accommodation. We’ll give you an information pack, a set of New Zealand maps, and give advice with any pressing first tasks like setting up a bank account or finding the right shop for any travel gear you’re missing. We’ll also give you a Kiwi-Internship cell phone, which you can keep for the duration of your placement. This service gives you a local NZ phone number from the day you arrive in New Zealand, and a way to connect with friends, family and also Kiwi Internship staff and Hosts.
We keep working for you during your placement: we provide a liaison service between yourself and your host employer, and any others such as your home college or university as necessary. We can also arrange to appoint an academic or professional supervisor for interns who are intending to claim course credit for the internship and whose home institution stipulates such supervision (this may incur additional charges).
– Highlights
Your Kiwi Internship will give you a great advantage with potential employers or admissions for further education. Working with Kiwi birds has increased confidence and given a greater sense of purpose to past interns. Many of our students say that volunteer work and internships have changed their lives in numerous ways. All of our interns have gone home with a greater understanding of environmental responsibility, while some have continued on in bird husbandry. Tangible benefits include increased skills, knowledge, and new friends & networks. Also, we can provide a monitored work experience for credit with home institutions and future employers, if desired. If you were thinking about going abroad for your internship, New Zealand is an excellent place for your international work experience, with amazing scenery (straight out of the Lord of the Rings films!), a mild year-round climate, and overwhelmingly friendly locals. You’ll be right in the middle of it all, working with Kiwi birds, surrounded by great recreation opportunities and learning about the local flora and fauna. We give our students the chance to experience New Zealand from a local perspective.
We are based in NZ with extensive local knowledge. Read about us, and our philosophy of social and environmental sustainability on our website at www.kiwi-internships.com. Our network of contacts for host families, internship programmes and personal placements has developed over many years. Many of our students have acknowledged that they simply didn’t have the time or knowledge to create the kind of experiences we can create for you!

Our Internship programmes are open to all interested students, graduates, and professionals.
