PERU / Volunteer Latin America
This project strives to improve the living standards of a community with the fortune of disadvantaged women and children at its heart. It also provides practical solutions to local environmental problems. The project is looking for volunteers to lead classes or support the lead teacher (assistant teacher) in kindergarten and preschool classrooms. Volunteers can teach subjects already being taught (English, maths) or create their own lessons with new subjects. Volunteers interested in gardening or construction can work in the school’s greenhouse/garden (preparing discarded plastic bottles for planting, composting, watering, harvesting vegetables, etc) or help expand and maintain the school (basic upkeep and repairs to major building work). The project also welcomes volunteers with fundraising ideas and those interested in community action (organizing benefit concerts, collecting trash materials from local businesses, recycling projects, etc). There are various schools in close proximity to the project if interested in learning or improving your Spanish.
There is no cost to participate and volunteers can opt to stay in private accommodation or at the projects’ volunteer house. The house is fully furnished with dining room, living room, kitchen, hot water, internet access, etc, and costs £25 per week.
Please note Volunteer Latin America request a small fee to provide more information on this volunteer programme.
