Are your looking for a challenge and a change of life direction we are looking for a enterprising Management Couple to manage a small estate and tourist lodge in Darwin, East Falkland Islands.
You will be tasked to maintain and build on the reputation of the 6 letting bedrooms lodge, offering boarding, food (breakfast, lunches, dinners and “smoko” tea/coffee with cake and biscuits) and hospitality to military, contractors and locals Tourists can book tours of the local area including battlefield and wildlife, therefore having an interest in these subjects is an advantage.
In addition to running the lodge, you will be required to manage the small estate involving; grow your own crops; ground keeping; managing the water supplier (spring and well); electrical supply via wind turbine and generator; look after chickens; and raising life stock, (the latter being dependant on the skills and abilities).
Until fairly recently the estate was held in private hands, we are looking to enhance the site further, and we have invested into the structure and facilities of the estate to further enhance the facilities.
The ideal couple/individual would need to have a full driving licence, computer skills, hospitality and cooking ability. In addition, general handyman skills, grounds keeping skills are needed as well as the ability to provide battlefield, wildlife and cultural tours for tourists, after training.
This role is a 7 day week role and long days during the high season; however the pace of life is slower and more relaxed on a day to day basis. There is the opportunity to take three months of in June, July and August.
To be eligible for this role you will need to have drive, enthusiasm, stamina and commitment, as well as the ability to develop business and enhance the lodge’s reputation. Due to the distances and remote location, this is not a role for the feint hearted.
