We have a number of positions available for interns to assist with environmental education on the forest and urban interface between Reno, Nevada and the Sierra Nevada mountains, with special emphasis on the unique ecology of Galena Creek Park.
Internship positions are for a minimum of 3 months, after which it is possible to extend your stay.
Interns will be involved with several tasks, including: Providing interpretive and directional information for the Galena Creek Recreation Area, Developing educational materials based on Sierra Nevada and Great Basin Natural History, Presenting public outreach programs – including community events, hikes, short talks, Friday Night Campfire programs, library programs, and other special events, Conducting informal roving interpretation to the public on foot, Staffing the information desk at the Galena Creek Visitor Center to answer phone and in-person inquiries, open and close the visitor center, daily center upkeep, and provide a high level of customer service to visitors, Staffing the Center Bookstore – which includes doing inventory, running a cash register, and answering questions about merchandise.
This position will require travel throughout the Reno/Mt. Rose Scenic Byway area, as well as working on weekends and most holidays. Internship positions are Full time, 40 hours per week including holidays and weekends.
There is a programme cost of £465 to pay to take part in the whole programme – which covers all food and lodging, transportation once you arrive in Reno, all equipment usage, training, orientation and back up. Interns also receive a $100 per week stipend during their stay. £95 ($US150) of your fee will also be refunded to you at the end of the programme if all equipment is in order.
