Free volunteer teaching opportunities in rural Cambodia!

CAMBODIA / New Futures Organisation

New Futures Organisation is looking for volunteers to teach English and mathematics to students in our free rural schools.

NFO is based in Takeo, about 90 minutes south of Phnom Penh in Cambodia. We operate a network of schools providing free education to students in rural villages who are unable to attend regular schools due to distance, poverty or family circumstances. We also operate a children’s home which cares for vulnerable and disadvantaged young people, as well as a number of education projects with members of the local community.

We’re looking for volunteers to support our local teachers in the classroom, educating the students through games, songs, conversation and play, as well as more traditional teaching methods. Volunteers help to improve students’ pronunciation and understanding of English and maths, as well as providing an invaluable opportunity to learn about other cultures. Many volunteers also spend time with the young people at our childrens’ home, doing everything from playing volleyball and football to teaching makeup and hairdressing skills, to DIY, decorating and working on our small-scale farm. Our volunteers come from all over the world and from all walks of life – We’ve had people from over 40 countries visit us over the past few years! The only requirement is a desire to help improve the lives of the young people we work with.

Unlike some organisations, we do not charge volunteers to participate in these projects – The only fee is a $25 registration fee to cover the cost of government registration on arrival. Accommodation is available at our volunteer centre, where a room costs just $5 a night, and our staff cook breakfast and an evening meal each night.
