Grassroots Volunteering in Sweden

The organisations listed below have either got in touch with us to add their details to this or another of our websites, or we otherwise have reason to believe they are actively looking for international volunteers and charge reasonable or no fees to join in, live and work with them:

Foteviken Museum
www.fotevikensmuseum.se

Live the life of a Viking in 1138 AD. Foteviken Museum is an archaeological open air museum that conveys how life might have been in a town during the late Viking Age. Aside from traditional exhibitions the museum is a reconstructed Viking town with 23 buildings and a Viking ship.

Enthusiastic interns and volunteers are constantly in need to populate and help bring the town to life. If by chance you have not packed any Viking age clothing you may borrow some from the museum.

Where: Höllviken.
Accommodation & Costs: Scandinavian Viking Explorer Group membership is required to participate. This costs a little under £15 and includes insurance cover. Volunteers may live free of charge in the volunteer house, where they are assigned a bunk. More serious re-enactors with their own Viking tent may live in the Viking Town.

Other Opportunities to Volunteer in Sweden

Wild Spirit Dog Sledding and Bushcraft offers sled dog tours and stoneage bushcraft workshops in Northern Sweden. They use workaway volunteers to help feed the dogs and set up the tours though we are uncertain if they actually recruit via the work exchange website or just use workaway as a term to describe volunteers and do some sort of Facebook song and dance to hire. To find volunteering opportunities in English from Swedish non profits, try Volontärbyrån.
