Ebola and the unearthing of huge diamonds are the main reasons for Sierra Leone’s occasional mentions on the news but hopefully one day the miles and miles of tropical beaches will attract visitors to this corner of west Africa. For the moment though, even travellers looking to volunteer struggle to find projects to pin their colours to.

This small charity relies on both local and international volunteers to fill particular roles within their organisation, including teaching vulnerable children in two slum communities and working with their management team to improve and expand new and existing social enterprise schemes. Female volunteers planning to stay for more than three months can help with The Circle, a focus group providing a safe place for ten plus year old girls to talk, share, laugh and learn.
Where: Freetown.
Accommodation & Costs: Home stay accommodation is available for a little over $400 per month.
