Free (or Cheap) Volunteer Work in Egypt

It is one of our favourite countries to visit but for such a large country with both large numbers of tourist visitors and its fair share of social issues, Egypt offers very few opportunities for volunteering. Even the usually dependable help exchange websites come up short here.

Grassroots Volunteering in Egypt

The organisations listed below have either got in touch with us to add their details to this or another of our websites, or we otherwise have reason to believe they are actively looking for international volunteers and charge reasonable or no fees to join in, live and work with them:

Habiba Organic Farm
www.habibaorganicfarm.com

A piece of desert turned into fertile land, this organic farm in a Bedouin settlement in Nuweiba, South Sinai has welcomed volunteers to help out since their first volunteer dropped in from Japan in 2009. HOF’s fees have gone up considerably since we added them here and, to be honest, we might have bumped their listing had Egypt offered more opportunities. It should however be mentioned that there is very much a teaching of permaculture practices aspect to the programme and it’s by the beach too.

Where: Nuweiba, Sinai.
Accommodation & Costs: Food and accommodation provided. Fees to participate come in at EGY£3300 for one week, EGY£6000 for two weeks.

Other Opportunities to Volunteer in Egypt

Animal Care in Egypt welcome vets, veterinary nurses and students to assist their vets in their small animal clinic in Luxor. General volunteers are also welcome to help at the centre with day to day tasks. Overseas volunteers are asked to fundraise for their placement. This stands at £600 for five weeks but accommodation is provided. Shorter stays are possible but the weekly fee works out higher. Another place for volunteering to help animals is The Egyptian Society for Mercy to Animals (ESMA). They operate a dog shelter in Sakkara, Giza and a cat shelter in Shabramont, Giza, as well as helping working animals such as donkeys, horses and camels.
