Grassroots Volunteering in Austria
The organisations listed below have either got in touch with us to add their details to this or another of our websites, or we otherwise have reason to believe they are actively looking for international volunteers and charge reasonable or no fees to join in, live and work with them:
Festival Volunteering in Austria
Snowbombing is the biggest after season party in the Alps, taking place each year in Mayrhofen around the first week of April. Taking on one of two roles can earn a festival wristband, ski and lift pass and all meals. Their website was down when we investigated during our latest update for this page but their volunteer information moves around or disappears from year to year anyway. We usually end up googling “snowbombing volunteer” and find our own out of date information in the top results. In past years volunteer stewards were required to help with repping coaches to the resort from the UK – most likely ended by Brexit – merchandising, pre event branding and dismantling, street stewarding and night stewarding. Production runners were also wanted to assist in the production office and run errands across the resort and festival site. Seasonaires already in a resort job may also be wanted to promote Snowbombing throughout the season. Increasingly site services and volunteer recruitment is sourced out. Volunteer bartenders are rounded up through Harris and Porter Recruitment which requires applicants to have an EU passport and Irish bank account.

Other Opportunities to Volunteer in Austria
Interest in volunteering at the Special Olympics held in 2017 in Austria was so great the organisers were forced to close the registration portal. Other sporting events around the country include Ironman, held each year in July. They take on almost 2000 volunteers to make the event happen and provide food and beverages for your commitment, plus event paraphernalia and entrance to the volunteers party.
Grenzenlos are the go to people for youth workcamps and cultural exchange in Austria. There’s a lot going on here across several websites, much of it in German, but their short term workcamps look the most affordable option.

Volunteer Experiences*
Snowbombing Festival 2015: Stewarding, Skiing and Sleepless Nights – Part of Reeannonn’s slightly unplanned gap year was spent getting three hours sleep inbetween raving, skiing and volunteering at Snowbombing.
