Armenian Volunteer Corps

AVC’s Volunteer Corps invites volunteers aged 21 to 31 to volunteer in Armenia for between one month and one year, to serve in a job placement of their own choosing. Placements are available year round in a wide variety of sectors and organisations, including business, education, environmental sciences, arts and culture, finance, health, and governmental and non governmental agencies.

AVC also have a programme for working professionals, aged 32 up to 59, who have a minimum of five years of work experience and a keen desire to share their expertise and make a difference in Armenia. There is also a Senior Corps encouraging accomplished professionals, aged 60+, to utilize their immense knowledge and experience to support Armenia’s further development.

Where: Volunteers work in Yerevan and throughout Armenia. The most active locations aside from Yerevan are Gyumri, Vanadzor and Shushi.
Accommodation & Costs: There is no registration fee to join AVC but accepted applicants without adequate health insurance coverage for Armenia will be asked to join their group health insurance plan at around $15 a month. Double that if you are aged 65+. Working Professionals and Senior Corps volunteers that wish to stay less than a month can do so by paying an addtional fee of around $200. Volunteers generally live with a host family, though can make their own arrangement, paying around $260 per month ($300 in winter) for room and breakfast, plus an optional extra $80pm for dinner.

Other Opportunities to Volunteer in Armenia

At least one grandparent must be fully Armenian to qualify for Birthright Armenia‘s year round volunteer programme giving diasporan Armenians, aged 21 to 32, the opportunity to connect to their ancestral homeland. Participants commit to at least 30 hours of volunteering per week while living with a local host family. Travel reimbursements are provided and after the 18th week of participation, volunteers receive a monthly allowance to help cover basic living expenses.

Twenty years after it began improving the lives of children in one village, the Children of Armenia Fund’s (COAF) ambition now intends to reach every single child in the country with the essential opportunities for self development and growth. Talented and motivated individuals interested in joining their efforts at making a positive and lasting impact in rural Armenia are welcome to apply to volunteer.

Teach For Armenia have a two year Teacher Leadership programme open to applicants from the Armenian diaspora holding a bachelor’s degree. The most committed and exceptional candidates are trained to become leaders and teachers and placed in underserved schools and communities.
