Elephant Conservation and Research, South Africa

SOUTH AFRICA / WorkingAbroad Projects

Volunteers are needed to join an elephant research and conservation project in an elephant park alongside the Knysna forest of South Africa. This volunteer project is aimed at supporting the ongoing spearhead elephant conservation research activities of the park.

You can join for 2 weeks up to 12 weeks all year round and we have places throughout 2014 & 2015 available.

Individuals, groups and students all welcome.

Costs for accommodation in shared volunteer house, materials, project support & training start from £500.

The Elephant Park, which is a mix of natural scrubland, forest and reclaimed farmland, spans over 100 hectares and is rich with biodiversity. The herd is comprised of four males and five females with an age range of between 6 to 25 years old.

The standard of elephant care within the park is of the highest within South Africa, with world-class facilities and a management style that allows the elephants to freely roam within the park – be it getting food from visitors or simply living a natural elephant life.
