RWANDA / Global Vision International
GVI and the Dian Fossey Gorilla Fund International (DFGFI) have teamed up to offer volunteers the opportunity to assist in the long-term conservation of the endangered mountain gorilla in Rwanda. The future of the gorillas is most dependent on the protection and survival of the forests in which they live, since they depend on this land for food, safety and normal activities, but the forests are often in danger from growing human populations.
Based in Atlanta, the DFGFI works in conjunction with community-based preserves in the Democratic Republic of Congo, the National University of Rwanda and also with other critical conservation projects as part of a wider conservation outreach plan. In 2007, the Karisoke Research Center, set up by the late Doctor Fossey, celebrated its 40th anniversary.
