Construction Volunteer

GHANA / Volunteer Partnerships for West Africa

Volunteer Partnerships for West Africa (VPWA) is a volunteer-driven, non-profit NGO based in Ghana.

VPWA is to start four construction projects in different parts of the country. Although part of the job will be done by the local communities and donors, your help is still needed to supplement efforts.

The projects VPWA will start are the following: 1. VPWA Youth Development Center: The aim of the Center is to train young Africans in Information, Communication and Solar Technology. Although volunteers would be based in Pokuase (Greater Accra Region), the scheme is to be built in Damang, near Nsawam in the Eastern Region of Ghana.

Along with the Development Center, VPWA is planning to construct an elementary school, preschool and a community center in the area.

2. His Grace School Library: VPWA, while still seeking for sponsorship, is planning to build a library for His Grace School. This facility will not only serve the school but also the whole Pokuase community.

3. Sanitary Center for Amasaman Zongo: VPWA, in collaboration with the Council of Amasaman, is planning to construct a new sanitary public utility for the community. As most people in this area does not have a toilet at home, the scheme aims at bringing a decent and modern public installation for the community. This is a good initiative to put into practice our commitments to responsible environmental policies. This project will start once enough funds are raised.

4. Pokuase Community ICT Centre: This project aims at bringing low cost Information and Communication Technology (ICT) education to Ghana in an effort to spread it throughout West Africa.

We are recruiting volunteers who can contribute with their own physical labour to any of these projects. Tasks may include: carpentry, landscaping, painting and masonry.
