TGS is a lovely, small, international school in the town of Galle on the stunning South Coast. Classes are from kindergarten up to year 8. The principal, Rick Sievert, is an experienced, flexible professional who is supportive and easy to work with. The classes are small and the students friendly and well behaved.
The school is not for profit so it’s not about the money (although the package is competitive with Colombo schools) but about broadening your professional and life experience.
The comparatively small amount of administration enables you to focus on classroom instruction and the flexibility of the curriculum gives you the freedom to try out new things. Whilst ICT is taught, this green school focuses on face to face interaction, hands on tasks and a connection with the environment.Take advantage of the beautiful, leafy campus to teach your students outside with the resident troupe of monkeys or lead your class on an unusual field trip; such as kite flying on the ramparts of the 16th century fort, releasing turtles into the sea, helping fishermen to bring in their catch or exploring a working plantation. Set your creativity and imagination free to inspire and challenge your students!
School hours finish at 1:30, so after any meetings you are free to take advantage of the amazing sights and activities the area has to offer. Sri Lanka has the largest number of public holidays of any nation, so multiple long weekends allow for trips around the region. Go surfing, see wild animals on safari, trek through ancient rainforest, taste orange pekoe at a tea plantation, play golf in the hill country, scuba dive with turtles, visit ancient historical sites, indulge in fantastic food, celebrate exotic festivals, bike through the countryside, go whale and dolphin watching, meet authors at the Literary Festival, shop for tropical fruit in the markets, make new friends and enjoy a cold beer as you watch an incredible sunset over the Indian ocean.
