American Summer Camps Are Still Hiring Camp Counsellors
Children across the United States are getting excited about summer, when their parents will pack them off to the wilderness and entrust them into the care of – if you are quick enough – YOU.
Most of the recruitment for this year is already done, but some of the thousands of summer camps dotted across America still have staffing needs to be finalised. Despite the retweets from soon to be camp counsellors and support staff announcing visas have been approved and flights confirmed, the major recruiting organisations, such as Camp America, state applications are still open.
Camp America, along with other similar placement organisations in your home country, like CCUSA, can find you a job at camp. They provide orientation, arrange visas and otherwise guide applicants through the whole process in return for a fee of a few hundred pounds.
Though with the chance of being hired on the spot at a job fair long past – one of the best reasons for using a placement organisation – there is greater incentive to apply for a job independently and keep a few extra dollars for yourself. Successful applicants can still obtain sponsorship for the necessary J-1 visa via a designated sponsor organisation.
These camps are still hiring but act fast
The countdowns towards the opening of their camps are literally ticking down on their websites so although the following camps are still hiring you must act fast:
Upstate New York’s Iroquois Springs are still in need of cabin specialists. Living in a cabin with a group of ten to 13 campers and two co-counsellors, the cabin specialist is sometimes known as a general counsellor, the all rounder that acts as a leader, guide, helper and positive role model. Elsewhere in New York, Camp Echo Lake is still hunting for activity specialists.
All boys Camp Mah-Kee-Nac hires enthusiastic and adventurous individuals from all around the world to join them in the beautiful Berkshire Mountains of Massachusetts. They are looking for staff with experience in one or more of the specialities listed at https://www.campmkn.com/staff/job-openings/.
The TLC Family of Camp is also based in the Northeast. They welcome camp counsellors from across the US, Canada, the UK, Australia, New Zealand and South Africa.
The Girl Scouts of Northern California run several camps and still require lifeguards, both pool and waterside. These, and other open vacancies, are listed at https://camp.gsnorcal.org/about/work-at-camp. Similar vacancies can be had with the Girl Scouts of Wisconsin Southeast too. In past years we have seen them hiring into May.
