China Summer Teaching Program

CHINA / Yabroad Information Service Company

Introduction

Good education is an important key to provide a better life. Joining this program as a volunteer English teacher will give you a very special opportunity to help the poor students in rural China to overcome the obstacles and to give them the proper education they deserve. Join us for a wonderful, enriching experience that will open your world, mind, and heart!

Unlike most opportunities to travel to China, this program takes you to a fascinating and beautiful rural location of the kind that few outsiders get the chance to experience. You will teach underprivileged children who are eager to learn about the outside world, and work together with an international group of volunteers from China, America and Europe. Traveling and living in a group gives you a chance to make life-long friendships, and challenge yourself while also receiving the support you need.

Living in a rural area, you will have a unique chance to learn about the “real” China, away from the crowds and population of the city. You will also get to experience China’s urban side with the visits to Beijing and to Huaihua, a small but beautiful city in Hunan province.

This program has been running for over ten years, and has changed the lives of many students and volunteers. If you want a deep and authentic experience, and a real chance to make a difference, come join us!

Itinerary

Land in Beijing and spend a few days sightseeing (Forbidden City, Great Wall).
Travel to rural village in a beautiful and remote area of the Hunan province.
While staying in a school house, teach English and environmental studies to local Chinese students.
On regular days of rest, visit the students’ families, explore nearby towns, go hiking, and shop at local markets.
End with a graduation ceremony and trip back to Huaihua, Beijing, and home.

Work Content

Around twenty volunteers live together in a school, forming a tight international community. You will be responsible for teaching a single class of children, allowing you to build close relationships with your students. 3-4 Chinese and international volunteers work together to teach a class, so if you don’t speak Chinese you can get help from your partners. The primary subject taught is English, but you can also teach your students games, handicrafts, other languages, and whatever else you are passionate about! Besides, there’s an “Earth Day” celebration which aims to teach the children about protecting the environment.
