ZAMBIA / Game Rangers International
Game Rangers International (GRI) is a non-profit Zambian NGO, established in 2008, with critical and ongoing support from the David Shepherd Wildlife Foundation (DSWF). Its focus is currently within Kafue National Park (Africa’s second largest park) with the aim of directly supporting conservation of the park: its animals, ecosystems and surrounding communities. GRI’s tackles conservation in a holistic manner through four vitally important projects: the Elephant Orphanage Project, Muzovu Awareness Project, Kafue Conservation Project, and Itetzhi-tetzhi Community Project.
GRI is currently looking for volunteer Project Assistants (PA’s) at its Camp Phoenix bush camp to assist with many aspects of the camps daily operations, as well as focused project work within the various GRI initiatives.
We need assistance with:
• Teaching support in nearby villages
• Training and capacity building of local staff
• Mechanical support to the project workshop
• Behavioural observation of the elephant orphans at the EOP
• Hands-on camp developments
• Fundraising and marketing initiatives
• Community development and outreach initiatives (e.g. playground for villages, medical/veterinary support, school stocking and repairs, arts and crafts schemes)
Monthly volunteer positions are available annually from April to November. This unique opportunity to live and work at Camp Phoenix, home of the Elephant Orphanage Project (to rescue, rehabilitate and release orphaned elephants back into the wild), is available to a limited number of volunteers per month.
Cost for a one-month placement on the programme is a minimum donation of £1,500. This covers all in-country costs as well as directly supporting conservation efforts in Zambia.
