Paid Teaching in Thailand

THAILAND / GapGuru

Get paid to teach in Thailand on your gap year!

Thailand is a fascinating destination for gap year travel and offers a wide range of experiences across its tropical jungles, remote islands and bustling cities. This gap year teaching programme is a fantastic opportunity to spend time living and working in Thailand, experiencing real Thai culture, while earning money and gaining experience teaching abroad.

Introduction to teaching in Thailand: Your gap year work will be based around Singburi in northern Thailand, but all arrivals start their trip with a weekend of activities in Bangkok. This includes a cycle and boat tour of the city and free time to enjoy shopping and nightlife, and to get to know your fellow teachers.

Your introduction to life in Thailand will continue in Singburi, with a 2 week cultural induction, designed to help you settle into your new surroundings and get to grips with Thai customs, history, culture and religion. Teachers will be taken on several excursions in the local area and those teaching English as a foreign language will get a ‘survival’ course in Thai language.

Your final 2 weeks of induction will be spent on a TEFL teacher training course, learning how to teach English abroad. An experienced instructor will give you advice on how to manage classes and give you ideas and techniques for teaching in Thailand. You’ll also get the opportunity to practice teaching in local schools to help you build confidence before your paid placement.

Teaching placement details: As a paid gap year teacher, your schedule will be flexible, but you should expect to work between 3 and 5 hours each day. Working hours will be between 8:30am and 3:00pm, Monday to Friday. In most cases you will be paid between 300 and 500 Euros per month. Accommodation and meals are provided during your weekend in Bangkok, 2 week cultural induction and 2 week teacher training course, but you will be expected to cover your own living expenses during your gap year teaching placement.

Please note this programme requires a participation fee.
