As a medical intern in Romania you’ll work in a frenetic medical emergency department. The service struggles to meet the demands of its patients due to a current limitation of space in a dated facility, ageing equipment, limited capabilities and a major shortage of staff. Volunteers can help by being part of a dedicated team of emergency hospital staff which ranges from helicopter pilots & ambulance drivers to nurses, firemen & physicians.
The daily schedule of volunteers on a medical internship in Romania will vary depending on the needs of the department and the volunteers’ own interests and abilities. The experience an intern has on this project depends a lot on the participant’s abilities, how they adapt and what they want achieve. There are opportunities to travel with the ambulances and the on call pre-hospital physician to deal with emergency incidents. You will also participate in lectures in Targu Mures with medical students who come from around Romania to learn from this emergency medical service.
This medical internship in Romania is a hands-on experience where you will be required to work at the pace of the emergency department. You will be as heavily involved as your skills and commitment dictate and you have the opportunity to make a major contribution to the team. Volunteers will acquire knowledge and skills about medical practices in Romania, gain firsthand experience of frontline emergency medical service, and will assist in all manner of procedures.
