Volunteer Veterinary Nurse

Would you like to volunteer with one of the largest Primate Sanctuaries in the world?

We are seeking a dedicated, positive and friendly character to take on the role of Veterinary Nurse with immediate effect. This placement is for a minimum of 12 months with a view to a longer term position.

In our Veterinary Nurse, we want someone:
• With at least two years work experience
• Who has a keen interest in nutrition and natural treatments
• Has excellent organisational and people skills, is self motivated and confident in working on their own initiative.

Duties will involve:
• Responsibility for monitoring and recording the health and well being of all monkeys at the Foundation and supporting the primary care provided to the orphans during baby season.
• Preparation and distribution of treatments to monkeys – which can be an all day challenge.
• Managing stock of medical supplies and supplements.
• Manage special diets for sick monkeys. Prepare and administer specific medications (by oral or intravenous means).
• Testing and microscopic examination of samples – TB, Faecal etc
• Delivering routine medical care – cleaning or stitching wounds, and assist visiting vets with critical care, routine surgeries/vasectomies etc
• Introducing volunteers to the medical areas, which involves general husbandry and sharing knowledge.
• Maintaining medical records (Access Database) and possible supervision of quarantine area.

In taking on this unpaid volunteer role, we will provide basic cabin accommodation and vegan/vegetarian meals.
