LOCATION: Arusha, Tanzania
Opened in 2002 with three students, The School of St Jude now has nearly 1,500 students from Grades 1-6 in primary and Forms 1-3 in secondary. The school is introducing student-centred curricula conducive to lasting and meaningful student learning. The International Cambridge curriculum is currently being introduced for secondary students and The International Primary Curriculum (IPC) for primary students. To this end, the school is committed to the ongoing improvement of the English language skills of the teachers. Therefore, the school is seeking applications from interested and qualified ESL teachers for the following two vacancies that need to be filled:
•1 ESL Teacher for the teachers in the Primary School
•1 ESL Teacher foteachers in the Secondary School
This support can take the form of timetabled ESL sessions for all teaching staff, in-service training and consultation with individual teachers on aspects of English language use. ESL teachers report to the Headmaster, Academic Master and Curriculum Coordinator of their respective school.
Key Responsibilities:
•Provide teacher support by devising and delivering ESL sessions
•Model effective and varied English language learning activities and strategies and provide feedback on their progress and areas for further ESL support
•Liaise with other teacher mentors to analyse the language demands and language features of academic subjects, and ensure learning addresses these demands
•Participate in in-service sessions as required, in collaboration with the teacher mentors and Curriculum Coordinator
Required Qualifications and Experience:
•Graduate degree from an accredited University
•A recognised TESOL diploma, or TESOL post graduate award
•Minimum 10 years TESOL teaching experience in an education context
•Knowledge of primary or secondary education and of English for Academic Purposes essential
•Formal training in primary or secondary teaching desirable
•Preferably some experience in teaching ESL to adults Skills:
•An ability to model good practice in all aspects of teaching
•An ability to work alongside a team of local teachers
•Possess the integrity, open-mindedness and adaptability necessary to live and work in a developing country
•Strong inter-personal and communication skills
Stipend:
