ICELAND / Arctic Adventures @ Adventure Work
As a Glacier guide, your primary responsibilities are the safety and enjoyment of our guests while leading them through (easy to moderate) glacial terrain, supervising the operations on daily basis, making sure everything run smooth.
You will be provided with full training followed by formal assessment prior to leading tours independently. We offer tours ranging from easy and family friendly hikes to more demanding activities such as ice climbing.
The guide position is physically demanding! An average workday typically amounts to 10 hours, often in challenging weather conditions. As a guide, you can expect to lead multiple departures throughout the day in addition to taking care of track maintenance duties on the glacier (under supervision of a more senior guide.)
Working with tourists from all over the world in a dynamic environment means no two days are the same and constantly adapting to changing conditions is therefore an integral part of the job.
For many people, visiting the country ranks high on their bucket list and the reasons are obvious.
We encourage our staff to explore the island and learn more about the history and nature of Iceland- our clients appreciate a knowledgeable guide! That said, it is important to understand that working in a busy tourism industry during peak travel season can be demanding.
