Land Conservationists Needed to Volunteer in Thailand

THAILAND / Kaya Responsible Travel

Based on the Thai island of Koh Tao, this land conservation project works alongside the marine conservation project addressing environmental issues on the land that often also affect the surrounding sea. The local community of Koh Tao work with volunteers to address deforestation, pollution, recycling, erosion and rubbish disposal to maintain the beauty of this vibrant green island and its surround crystal blue waters.

With the surge in tourism to this tiny island, the national park has suffered greatly in recent years. Only with the manpower of volunteers – both local and international – can the work get done. The work that has previously been completed on this project has raised general awareness of a number of issues however it is now looking to volunteers to become ambassadors of good diving practise.

Volunteers take part in physical activities around the island including; beach clean-ups, tree planting, identifying and rebuilding areas of erosion, as well as activities within the local community and businesses promoting. Volunteers can also get involved with helping locals to recycle, become immersed in local awareness raising initiatives of issues and solutions and establishing schemes that encourage participation in better land management practices.
