BOLIVIA / Kaya Responsible Travel
Volunteer in Bolivia and play a crucial role working in the Tourist Office in Cochabamba, trying to boost the country’s economy by promoting travel to Cochabamba and Bolivia. This is a great opportunity to gain valuable hands-on work experience in the tourism industry and to learn about Bolivia, as volunteers will be visiting various places and working on cultural projects that give the country its identity. The project works with the main Tourist Information office in Cochabamba.
As well as promoting international tourism, the office seeks to educate and motivate students from local schools to visit the centre to increase their own personal knowledge about the resources available to them on their doorstep. The centre is also trying to encourage the students to plan their free time accordingly, by visiting more of Cochabamba and its surrounding areas attractions; spreading culture through the young Bolivian community.
Volunteers are required to help visitors organize their trips and tours around Cochabamba as well as assisting on pre-arranged tourism events, fairs and alternative activities to help promote the city. Brainstorming new ways of gaining tourism is also part and parcel of your role here, as an outsider’s perspective can be incredibly useful to those who are close to the daily workings of the centre.
Volunteers may also need to become involved in research of the local sights and establish new businesses to promote, and documenting certain tourist points in Cochabamba photographically may also be required.
You will also have the opportunity to help with events related to art, music and dance promotion or in any tourist ‘feria’ that may occur during your placement. Those with specific skills may work in graphic design on postcards of the city, leaflets etc, and there is a constant need to help in the marketing and promotion of tours and trips in and around Cochabamba.
