Volunteer Required to Teach Music in Bolivia

BOLIVIA / Kaya Responsible Travel

Volunteer abroad in Bolivia on what some might say is the perfect project for a music-lover. This two-part project works with the local school to provide music lessons and music appreciation classes to children of all ages, and also offers youngsters that have a keen interest or aptitude for music to join an after-school symphony orchestra. The project has bought many instruments for these children over the years and the orchestra has been running since 2003 – with literally hundreds of children benefitting from its work.

The time put into this project by volunteers has meant already that numerous musical instruments have been bought and hundreds of children have had the opportunity to learn to play and participate in music. A talented orchestra has been built and they have performed not only classical pieces but also, more recently, popular scores such as Evita and West Side Story.

Volunteers at the music school in Cochabamba, Bolivia will help plan classes and teach all aspects of music (instruments, learning to read music, singing, etc). At the orchestra they will play as part of the group, and teach music to beginners and new participants. On the occasions where the orchestra is performing you will also need to help organise and assist in the event. Some of the volunteers in the past have also had the opportunity to play with a local band in the bars of the city (normally Jazz).
