International Youth Volunteer

ICELAND / British Red Cross

We have an exciting opportunity for one volunteer to join the International Youth Volunteering Programme in Iceland for a 12-month placement from September 2020 (dates TBC). This placement runs as part of the European Solidarity Corps placement and is fully funded.

Placement Details

The volunteer will be working in one out of three projects available. Please let us know on the application form which placement you would be most interested in.

The placements that will be on offer are:

1) VIN: Volunteering at an open house for those with mental disabilities, the volunteer will support the staff with everyday tasks and connect with the guests through activities to help reduce social isolation.

2) Asylum Support Programme: This team supports asylum seekers in two different locations through weekly social activities. The volunteer will help to plan and run these activities alongside staff and volunteers.

3) Refugee Support: The volunteer will be in the social support side of the team and will help to plan and run an Open House for refugees seeking practical assistance and information. The aim of the project is to help refugees have a positive experience in Iceland and reduce social exclusion.

Additional Information

We have applied for funding from the European Commission for these roles and should know if this is secured by late June. Any offer of placement will be provisional on a positive response for this.

With recent developments relating to Covid-19, we are closely monitoring the situation in accordance with Erasmus+ guidance and will inform candidates of any changes to the programme if necessary, namely in terms of the start date of the project.
