Volunteer teacher – Village Primary School Uganda


UGANDA / Bulenga Modern Primary School

English speaking, 18 years and older required for teaching in a village primary school.
2 positions avaliable.
Teaching:
Reading, Writing, Music, Sport and Art.
Ages 6-13 years.
25 hours per week/4-5 hours day.
You maybe required to cover lessons in a teachers absence, assist marking teachers books and hold after school clubs.

School:
Bulenga Modern Primary School is of a basic set up. 8 classrooms from Nursery up to P7 (13 years). Each room has basic benches and blackboards. Along with simple reading equipment, sports equipment and art supplies in the staffroom. You would be expected to bring enough teaching supplies with you to make your teaching easier, such as balls, stickers, pencils, red pens (marking) art etc. Lifestyle:

You will live in the village, amongst the other school teacher in their comound, a 5-10 minute walk from school. The house consists of 2 rooms. Bedroom; 2 single beds, 1 set of drawers and small table. Living area: 2 chairs, small tables, 2 shelving units. You might be sharing with another volunteer (same sex)

You will collect water from the well or can pay a local boy to collect it for you for a very small amount 500-1000Ush per JerryCan. You will cook on a charcoal stove, which is provided. But could be a paraffin stove, which you may find easier.

All food can be bought in the village. The main road only a few minutes from the compound. Bulenga is only a 40 minute matatou (local taxi) ride from the city Kampala.
