PERU / WorkingAbroad
The aim of this position is to assist in the project’s long-term scientific research in the Peruvian Amazon; to better measure the effects of human activities on wildlife, including endangered species; to get the collected information to the people who can make decisions and act on the solutions that help conserve rainforest, and to make a clear and positive impact on the Amazon ecosystem in this part of Peru.
Programme Details
2011 dates: range from 24th January to 6th September (please go to www.workingabroad for exact dates)
We currently offer four different taxonomic groups for volunteers to select to work with (although it may be possible to work with more than one, so please ask) – Mammals, Birds, Herpetofauna and Insects.
Each volunteer will learn about all of the taxonomic areas that the project researches so as to benefit from a broad spectrum of rainforest knowledge, regardless of their chosen team(s). (see www.workingabroad.com for details on working with different taxonomic groups)
Volunteer Requirements:
-Be 18 years or above
-Have a fairly good level of fitness
-Be able to swim 100m unaided
– Some knowledge of Spanish would also be useful, but is not essential for most aspects of the work will be directed in both English and Spanish
– A sense of adventure and the ability to endure often challenging conditions are essential
We are also in a good position to offer university students the chance to do their undergraduate/mid term research projects. Please enquire.
Programme cost
The cost in total for 40 days is £1420 and for 20 days is £930.
There is also a special price for the Summer phase of £1880 for 60 days.
