8 month internship positions available – Riparian Ecology and Restoration along the beautiful Truckee River, Nevada. Ideal for students of Environmental science/Ecology or related fields.
Project Details
Dates: 28th March to 2nd December 2011 – 11 places available
The project will involve:
– the removal of the invasive exotic lapidium latifolium, and
– the restoration of this degraded site to a system of increased ecological structure and function.
– Interns will also assist with data collection and analysis for long term and short term monitoring.
– Will learn and apply long term and short term range land and riparian monitoring techniques.
– Will learn and apply soil restoration techniques and best management practices.
Internship Requirements:
– Must be currently enrolled in and pursuing studies at a foreign degree or certificate-granting post-secondary academic institution outside the United States, or;
– Have graduated from such an institute no more than 12 months prior to the programme start date (as from March 2010);
– Are studying or have studied a subject in the domain of Environmental Science, Biology, Ecology or a related field;
– Speak English to a good level;
– Are over 18 years old; and,
– Possess a valid passport throughout any time spent in the United States
– You need to be fit and healthy and capable of carrying out manual work in strenuous conditions and able to hike to and from project sites.
– Need to have an interest in conservation, restoration and wilderness.
Cost:
• One off application cost of £180.
• $300, non-refundable, visa processing fee
• Refundable $150 security deposit for lodging and field gear.
Compensation:
Interns will receive a living stipend of $7473.00 for the eight month programme.
